Mobile Number Portability - NOW IN INDIA

Mobile Number Portability shortly known as MNP is the Technical feasibility that
allows a mobile phone number subscriber to change his/her service operator without
changing his sim card and retaining his old number.

For example, if you are getting service from XXX operator and want to use the better
service from any other operator(s) say yyy, zzz, etc. but you do not want to loose your
old number. So, in this situation MNP can help you. You can change your operator
without changing your old mobile number.

MNP is first applied in Hong Kong in earlier 1999.Many contries in the world allows
MNP to their mobile users. In India it comes lately. After many delay Indian Govt. declair
that subscribers can apply for MNP from Nov.25. It may cost Rs.19 to change which is not so
high as compared to getting a new SIM CARD or number.

The service may starts from december 2010 and it will take 2-3 days to change your
operator.

MNP is a nice technology but like others it has also some advantages as well as some disadvantages
Some of those are:

ADVANTAGES OF MNP:
1. MNP allows to retain your old number despite changing to another service operator.

2. Enjoy new operator service without worry about the burden of using a new mobile number usimg MNP

3. No additional burden to tell your new number to your friends and relatives.

4. Enjoy better services, offers, etc. from your new operator.

DISADVANTAGES OF MNP:

1.Appying MNP will take some time to change your mobile service provider.

2. MNP process will also some cost(not so more).

3.You will loss offers and special services from your previous service provider.

4.You have to keep in touch with old as well as new operator.

Anyway , MNP  will be more effective in country like India where number of mobile subscriber as well as mobile service providers are increasing day by day.
